WOMEN GO FOR SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE

New research reveals that women seek deeper qualities from men

New research from Carte Noire coffee has revealed today seven out of ten women think that intelligence and a good sense of humour are the vital ingredients that men need to seduce the opposite sex, compared to just two out of ten women that favour a handsome face and a good physique.

The research revealed that the quality women find most attractive in a man is the ability to speak a foreign language. Six out of ten said they were very attracted to a man who had mastered another tongue, with 43% saying that it simply sounds seductive and 46% saying that it would be a sign of intelligence in a potential partner.

Despite women going for substance over style, the research also revealed that women tend to favour certain types of men. Romantic 45% and confident 41% were the most attractive, with arrogant unsurprisingly proving the most unpopular 71%. The other quality that really impressed the ladies was cookery, with 58% of women saying that they favour a man who has some skills in the kitchen, versus just 23% who prefer a sporty man who is good at football and fishing.

Melissa Neild, Senior Brand Manager said: "Women today are clearly seeking more than just looks. Intelligence and a sense of humour are always going to be important, but our research emphasises that other, perhaps less obvious qualities, are what women really look for in a man. In particular, being able to speak a foreign language, because it is not just romantic, but also shows a certain kind of intelligence and broad mindedness. So too does the ability to cook and a knowledge of the arts and literature - it shows a depth of character is essential above and beyond the typical qualities women look for. And the figures also suggest a passion for fishing is a complete turn off!"

To bring a touch of seduction to the lives of women across the UK, Carte Noire are launching the Man Cafe - the first ever pop-up-cafe where both men and coffee are on the menu!
