Kim Kardashian West, 34, Kourtney Kardashian, 35, and Khloe Kardashian, 30, were reportedly the last to know about the change and found it difficult to come to terms with the former Olympic gold medallist's new life just months after him and their mother Kris Jenner, 59, had filed for divorce following 23 years of marriage.

A source told People magazine of the sisters: "They were just hysterical when it all really came out.

"The divorce caused a divide, but Bruce's decision to share his transition has caused an even greater divide."

The 65-year-old reality TV star sparked rumours he was keen to become a woman after he grew his hair longer, had his Adam's apple made smaller, and started wearing nail varnish.

The insider added: "Everyone thought he was trying to feel young, that kind of thing. The whole family went through a rough patch. It's naturally a difficult thing to process and work through."

Meanwhile, Bruce's daughter Kendall, 18 - his eldest child with Kris - recently opened up about her father's change and admitted she will love him regardless of whether he's a man or a woman.

She said earlier this week: "I love my dad. He's always been there for me and my sisters.

"He's a wonderful man. And just because he's changing shoes now, so to speak, doesn't make him less wonderful. I will always love my dad, whether he's a man or a woman."

Bruce also has 17-year-old daughter Kylie with the matriarch, as well as two grown-up children Burt and Casey from his first marriage to Chrystie Crownover, and sons Brandon, 33, and Brody, 31, with his second spouse Linda Thompson.
