He's an international heartthrob thanks to his mega muscles, his long hair, sensational beard and bad-boy eyebrows, but the thing that makes Jason Momoa ultimately loveable is that he's such a lovely person.

He is so devoted to his heritage that he is currently out protesting the building of the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii on top of the Mauna Kea volcano in a bid to preserve the natural landscape of his homeland as part of the Protect Mauna Kea movement. He even joked on Instagram that he wouldn't be able to shoot Aquaman 2 because he had "got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land".

That's not even where his humanitarian efforts end. On the subject of Aquaman, he's proving to be a real life ocean hero, doing his bit to raise awareness about damage that single-use plastics has on sea life. Few things touch our hearts more than a dedicated environmentalist.

And when he's not saving the planet, he's at home taking care of his beautiful wife and children. The love he has for Lisa Bonet is so incredible because he's literally been in love with her since he first saw her on TV when he was 8-years-old. They've now been together for 14 years and got married in 2017. They have a 12-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son together.

He also has so much love for his friends and co-stars - particularly his Game of Thrones love interest Emilia Clarke, with whom he struck up a warm bond, most likely because of the way he put her at ease during some of their most trying sex scenes. These scenes are never particularly pleasant for actors, especially when there's simulated rape involved, but Jason managed to make Emilia howl with laughter by wearing a pink fluffy sock on his privates rather than the standard flesh-coloured pouch. Theirs is a weird friendship, but there's something kind of adorable about that story.

Perhaps the best thing about Jason Momoa, however, is that despite his alpha-male TV and film roles, he never takes himself too seriously off-screen. He's always smiling and pulling faces, and he's so full of childlike energy whether he's sneaking up on his Justice League co-star Henry Cavill on the red carpet or photobombing a pair of newlyweds while clutching a trident.

Plus, he always makes sure fans get awesome photos, and has a habit of taking shots with couples where he pretends to steal the girlfriend. Don't worry though, gentleman, he's a nice guy really!
