If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you’ve just about had enough of alcohol and partying, and the thought of New Year’s Eve is all a bit much.

New Year's Eve doesn't have to be all champagne and kisses at midnight

New Year's Eve doesn't have to be all champagne and kisses at midnight

If beer pong, an all-nighter and a New Year’s kiss are a million miles from where your head is at, then here are seven ways to see in the New Year instead of reaching for the bubbly for the 100th time this week…

Watch the countdown on TV

If you want to experience the excitement of seeing in the New Year but don’t want to leave the house, a sober evening staying in could not be any easier thanks to the New Year’s Eve fireworks being aired on TV.

The celebrations will include over 12,000 fireworks in an extraordinary display next to the river Thames.

Have a mocktail party

Get together with all your booze-banishing besties and have a mocktail party. Have a look online for some cool recipes, spend some time shaking and stirring, before having your own mini firework display in the garden!

Get some sparklers and Catherine wheels ready to go for when the clock strikes 12.

Have a games night

You’ve probably done it every day over the Christmas period, but can you ever really play too many rounds of Guesstures? Whether you invite round friends to get involved, or you just play with a select few family members, board games can get ridiculously competitive and equally hilarious.

Playing games that requires teams also massively increases the competition and tension – what more could you want?

Have a Bridget Jones marathon

Who doesn’t love Bridget? Now that there are three movies, we can book the trilogy in for a full evening. You don’t need any alcohol to laugh your head off when you’ve got the Bridget box set. Watch them alone, with your partner, family or friends – anyone would have to be insane to turn down that invite!

Watch Taylor Swift’s stadium tour

Netflix are releasing Tay’s stadium tour movie on December 31, and we can’t think of a better time to do so! What does this mean? A night of singing along to all of Taylor’s best songs, reminiscing the tour or seeing what you missed out on? We can’t wait for the release of this one…

Have a crafts night

There are so many things you can make that will bring you into 2019 feeling super creative and productive.

Why not make a mood board of resolutions and goals to strive for in 2019? Frame your favourite photos and put them in places around the house that need some attention? Or put together a jar full of compliments, mottos and messages, that you can pick out every morning and give yourself the credit you deserve throughout the coming year? Little things like this will feel rewarding after, and who doesn’t love a bit of sticking and crafting?

Have an early night

Who says you must stay up and see the New Year in? Some people love the celebrations but there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in bed by 10 and feeling fresh as a daisy on January 1. If none of the above tickle your fancy, just have an early night. Have you ever regretted a much-needed long sleep?
