JK Rowling's charity Lumos launches Light a Birthday Candle

Join the campaign and Light a Birthday Candle to help raise vital money for children across Eastern and Central Europe.

The children's charity, Lumos - which is run by JK Rowling, launches tomorrow and runs right through the June.

Join in by hosting your own cake and candle-themed fundraising events. Things like, Tea and Cake parties for family, friends and children, or run Bake and Take events at work.

A number of celebrities have backed the campaign and donated their own tea party recipes.

Ex Holby City actress, Jane Asher says: "Every child has the right to be brough up in security, love and happiness by adults who care, and I was shocked to learn that in the 21st century thousands of children are still being shut away in institutions.

"By supporting the ongoing work of Lumos, there is a real chance that in years to come we may see an end to this systematic cruelty. Some of my happiest moments with my own children were spent baking fairy cakes or gingerbread men with them when they were little: now for there other, deprived and institutionalised children, we can do our bit by baking for 'birthday' parties or cake sales at work."

Celebrity chef, Clarissa Dickson Wright, also supports the campaign. She says: "I think Lumos is a great organisation because it is such a simple fact taht every child's life can be improved by the mere fact of having a birthday cake. It provides maximum pleasure for the child with very little effort or expense."

So join in and help to ensure that a child doesn't have to go without on their next birthday.
