Super Salmon

Super Salmon

To tie in with the film Big Hero 6, Yo! Sushi have come up with their own dish to celebrate the release of this new kids movie; the Big Bento Six.

Rather than choosing from the conveyor belt each Big Bento Six is ordered specially and comes in six different flavours;

Great Goya- Tastetastic veggie dumplings dipped in super scrummy soy and sour sauce.

Chicken Yakitori- Scrumptious sticks of tender chicken thigh, boosted with sweet soya sauce.

Pumpkin Prime- Yummy bread crumbed pumpkin croquettes, served with sticky, sweet sauce.

Chicken Katsu- Scrunchified fresh breaded chicken thigh, drizzled with awesome fruit sauce.

Power Prawn- Power packed prawns in crispy breadcrumbs, topped with fruit fuelled sauce.

Super Salmon- Fantastically fresh salmon slices and awesome avocado, sprinkled with sesame seeds.

We all know that children are easily put off by food they are not familiar with and food that doesn’t appeal aesthetically. Well this puts the fun back into food. Playfully presented with a Baymax head made from rice and with exciting names, these encourage children to eat well but also enjoy it while they do so. There is a good range in the tray-including a salad and fruit selection and a Vita Coco Kido drink to wash it down with.

None of the meals exceed 500 calories either, most of them around the 300 calorie mark, so you can feed your child well without the guilt associated with cheaper fast food options.

Every child also gets a wrist band so they and feel exclusive to the club- making it just like the compact meals you might find in other fast food establishments.

We regressed back to being children for the night and tried these out- despite being 29 and 28- we still had a great time eating these new offerings. We were served by Karlo who was very enthusiastic about the film and said that the meals had already been well received, especially due to the bands that could be passed out prior to their meals to keep them entertained in the queue.

Having also recently gone vegetarian I was interested to find out what Yo! Sushi offered in the way of vegetable delights and was very pleased to find out that there was a generous selection of dishes including 2 in the Big Bento Six.

I had the Pumpkin Prime and having only ever carved a pumpkin before I was keen to find out what it tasted like. It was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the Cucumber Maki that accompanied it- proving that vegetarian doesn’t have to be boring when eating out.

My partner had the Chicken Yakitori and the sauce was just right- not too spicy but enough flavour to sweeten the chicken thighs- perfect for children to get them started on their sushi journey.

We also selected some other items from the menu to enjoy with our Big Bento Six.

I had the Avocado Maki- avocado and mayonnaise to start, followed by an Inari Pocket- Sweet soy bean curd pocket with rice, Kaiso- Su-Miso marinated Japanese seaweed rice and nori and the Vegetable Yakisoba- Noodles, vegetables, mildly spiced tangy sauce. All of there were tasty and very reasonably priced- around the £2.50 mark so it gave my partner the opportunity to indulge in more of the hot options.

My husband had Scallop Katsu- Crispy Japanese breaded scallops with wasabi mayonnaise, Chicken Teriyaki- grilled chicken thigh, sweet and sticky soy sauce and the Chicken Firecracker Rice- Spicy sushi rice, chicken and Asian vegetables, which have become his firm favourites every time we visit.

To finish we indulged in the Chocolate Mochi- Soft Japanese race cake filled with dark chocolate ganache filling- which amounted to barely any calories as we shared so we were didn’t feel too bad afterwards for having dessert.

Overall, I was very pleased to find out that Yo! Sushi is targeting children with their meals with this attractive and appealing design and I can comfortably say now that vegetarians are well catered for in their restaurants.

The Big Bento Six boxes were a delight and I’m sure that children will look forward to a trip to Yo! Sushi now; when perhaps before they were a little uncertain.

Yo! Sushi have also recently teamed up with artist Prudence Staite to develop two ‘step by step’ Bento Art Guides to encourage families at home this half term to get creative.

One of these included a celebration of Chinese New Year and the year of the Goat.

Made from salmon sashimi and rice- the art-piece is made entirely from foods you would see on the restaurant’s conveyor belt.
