Activision have confirmed an updated version of the map - which appeared on classic games 'Call of Duty', 'Call of Duty: United Offensive', and 'Call of Duty 2' - will appear on the upcoming 'Call of Duty: WWII' when it drops in November.

The video game developer confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "Carentan is coming to #CODWWII Multiplayer! Read all about it right here. (sic)"

The map is based on the real life Battle of Carentan, which took place between June 10 and June 15 1944 in the rural French town, and saw US forces push German soldiers back, becoming a key part of the Battle of Normandy.

Activision wrote on their blog: "Carentan will be made available at launch as a Bonus Map for all Season Pass holders.

"The Season Pass for Call of Duty: WWII is already bursting at the seams, but the addition of Carentan puts it over the top. (sic)"

Last month, Activision revealed the 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Retribution' DLC had been made available.

Dave Stohl, Studio Head of Infinity Ward, said: "Our mission from the start was to craft a level of customisation for 'Infinite Warfare' players to suit their combat styles, across diverse multiplayer maps where all types of players would feel rewarded. Retribution delivers on that promise, and we can't wait to see the community jump in.

"Additionally, Retribution marks the final chapter of our zombies story, so we're taking players to a cool new setting, full of twists and turns, where they'll uncover the true motivation behind our villain's motives."
