The eagerly-awaited new video games will include missions that touch on a host of famous moments during the military conflict, including the Normandy Beach invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.

But for the first time ever, a 'Call of Duty' game will also make reference to Operation Cobra, which was the largest aerial bombardment in history.

The campaign saw US forces launch an unprecedented campaign against the Germans seven weeks after the D-Day landings in 1944.

The interesting development was recently mentioned by Sledgehammer CEO Glen Schofield and fellow co-founder Michael Condrey, according to the Daily Star newspaper.

Meanwhile, Glen has also promised the game will be sensitive towards certain aspects of the conflict.

He previously said: "The big distinction that Germans still make today is that between the German military and the Nazis.

"We made sure we made that distinction in the game, that the Germans were doing their duty ..."

Michael added: "We have a great historic conflict of good versus evil.

"But to make factions work you have to play as the Axis. In no way are we going to glorify that position, but we also can't shy away from it."
