Previously, the car manufacturer had signed an exclusive deal with game developers Electronic Arts (EA) that meant the cars would only appear in EA released titles such as 'Need For Speed' and 'Real Racing'.

Last year, it was announced that after 16 years, EA and Porsche were putting an end to the exclusivity of their deal, meaning other game developers could strike up their own deals to feature the popular cars in their games.

Now, Microsoft have announced they have struck up a six-year deal with the car manufacturers to allow their 'Forza' series - which is exclusively available on Xbox One and PC consoles - to include the high powered sports cars.

The deal starts with a special Porsche Car Pack for the 2016 racing game 'Forza Horizon 3', which upon purchase will make the cars available in the main game.

Alan Hartman, the studio head for Turn 10 who develop the 'Forza' games, said in a statement: "We entered this premium partnership with Porsche as a result of their shared passion for sports cars and motorsport. Porsche has a rich history of motorsport which combined with Turn 10's unrivalled position in digital racing entertainment has formed the basis for a new and exciting form of seamlessly integrated racing entertainment.

"The partners are working to develop and launch new ways to combine driving experiences, racing schools, and dominant motorsport successes with 'Forza's regular cadence of high-quality game experiences, content, and events. Our six-year partnership is starting off strong with 'ForzaRC', and we can't wait to show everyone what else we have planned."

In addition, Microsoft have also announced an e-sports event entitled 'Forza Racing Championship Season 3: The Porsche Cup'.

The news comes just days after Sony announced their newest racing game 'Gran Turismo Sport' - which is exclusive to PlayStation 4 consoles - will also feature Porsche models.
