Gamers will be able to change the colour of their characters by purchasing Shaders, change the voices of them with Skins and use the fictional money to buy Gear Transform, which allows users to make one item turn into another.

It comes hours after Firestorm was announced as a new character joining the game.

The torpedo and fireball throwing creature has been added to the roster, according to a video teaser posted on WWE wrestler Xavier Woods' YouTube channel.

He joins previously confirmed characters Swamp Thing, Captain Cold, Green Lantern and Green Arrow.

A new trailer for 'Injustice 2' posted earlier this year, gave gamers a glimpse into the new storyline of the hotly-anticipated release.

NetherRealm Studios' trailer, which was titled 'New Lines Are Drawn', takes up the story from where 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' left off, with The Joker tricking Superman into killing a pregnant Lois Lane.

That scenario triggered a series of events that ultimately led to the Man of Steel overseeing a new world order on Earth.

The description explained: "The line between hero and villain has become blurred as the most epic battle in the DC universe rages on in 'Injustice 2'.

"While Batman has emerged the victor in his battle against the Regime, a new threat arises and poses the ultimate threat to Earth."

Batman unites with a new team of superheroes in a bid to defend the world against its invaders.

Dominic Ciancolo, a cinematic director, explained Batman's role in the plot.

He recently said: "With many of his allies either victims of, or collaborators with, Superman's failed regime, Batman faces this dangerous world short of help. That's why he's brought together a new squad of superheroes.

"When Earth is invaded and threatened with destruction, Batman and his new team are thrust into action."

The trailer also revealed the identity of some new additions to the game's ever-growing roster of characters, including Brainiac - who features as the sequel's main antagonist - Bane and Poison Ivy.

'Injustice 2' is set for release in May 2017.
