Set to launch this spring, the Xbox Games Pass will offer a rotating selection of Xbox One games - as well as titles from previous machine the Xbox 360 - for just £7.99 ($9.99) a month.

The service will be available on both the Xbox One console and Windows 10 PCs but it won't feature the newest games that retail in-store.

As well as Microsoft titles there will be games from third party publishers such as 2K, Sega, Capcom, Codemasters, Bandai Namco and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment among others.

Early games confirmed for the Xbox Games Pass include titles such as 'Halo 5: Guardians', 'Mad Max', 'Lego Batman' and 'NBA 2K16' as well as older fan favourites like 'Soulcalibur 2'.

Unlike streaming TV services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime the games will be downloaded to your Xbox One.

In a statement, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said "One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One. That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues."

For players who want to cancel their subscription, their games can be purchased to keep at a 20 per cent discount.

Similar to Netflix, the service will add and remove titles on a cycle, with new games being added and some removed every month.

A preview version of Game Pass is available now with a "very limited number of titles" available for members of Xbox Insider - a program that allows gamers to test out unreleased games or services.

The service is planned to launch for Windows 10 eventually too, but will roll out on Xbox One first, with the full service coming in late Spring. It will be completely separate to the Xbox Live Gold subscription needed for online play.
