Speculation as to what the machine, referred to as the Nintendo NX, would be has been mounting for months and now the Japanese gaming giant has revealed it's new entertainment system in an introductory video released today at www.Nintendo-europe.com/nintendoswitch which shows what it can do.

The Nintendo Switch is a sleek grey handheld, portable device that looks like a tablet computer with controllers that attach to its sides which can become a home gaming system.

The Switch can be taken anywhere and enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose via its bright high-definition display which offers a full home gaming system experience in any environment.

When used at home the Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch dock that connects the console to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room.

To use as a handheld again, players simply lift the Nintendo Switch console from the dock and it will instantly transition to handheld mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you.

Players will use the detachable Joy-Con controllers, placed on either side of the Nintendo Switch console, to game, or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers.

Several Nintendo Switch gamers can get together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

Satoru Shibata, President of Nintendo of Europe, insists the Switch will offer a "unique" gaming experience and offers total playing freedom when it is released in March 2017.

Shibata said: "With this first look at Nintendo Switch, I hope fans are already imagining the possibilities of having the freedom to play when, where, and how they want to. Our teams at Nintendo, and many other developers, are all working hard to create new and unique experiences, and we look forward to showing you more."

Nintendo has also confirmed they are currently working with 48 third party developers who will be making titles for the new console.

Included among the list of developers are Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Telltale Games, Bandai Namco, Capcom and former console wars rivals Sega.
