The upcoming online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game - which was developed by Bungie, Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios - won't be giving users of the newest Nintendo console a chance to get their hands on the game, as game developers Bungie have said it's "unrealistic" to expect a port on the Switch.

Speaking to IGN.com, Bungie's Mark Noseworthy said the developers have "no announcements to make about the Switch at this time".

When pushed to clarify what was meant by "at this time", Mark said: "I think it's pretty unrealistic, given we're an online-only game, right? The Switch, because it's a portable - and I love my Switch, I've got ['Legend of Zelda's newest title] 'Breath of the Wild' here, I've got it with me. It's incredible, I love the console, but in terms of where it's at, I don't want leave anyone with the possibility of, like, 'It's a thing we'll consider, maybe next year.' There's no plans right now for Switch."

'Destiny 2' is the sequel to Bungie's 2014 game, and it drops the player in the middle of an all-out assault on the Tower - the pivotal location for the first two years of the series' history. But this time, the aim is to raise the earth and build something new from the ashes.

Speaking about the game, designer Luke Smith said in a previous interview: "I think of that reset as a fresh start. It's a new beginning for all players: veteran players like me can now recommend it to people like my brother-in-law, who couldn't get in to the first Destiny because my nieces were super young. Now they're a little older, and we can play together, both from the same start."

'Destiny 2' is published by Activision and will be released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on September 8.
