The late singer was found dead at his Minnesota home on Thursday (21.04.16), and while he was an inspiration to generations of wannabe musicians and singers, he also touched the hearts of several gamers so got his own purple alter-ego on 'Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3', named after his 'Purple Rain' hit.

'Mortal Kombat' co-creator Ed Boon said: "When we were working on 'Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3', I was thinking, 'What ninja colour have we not done yet?' and I'm a huge Prince fan, so I was thinking 'Purple Rain'."

While Ed admits he ran out of time to come up with a completely new MK character based on the music legend, he managed to pay tribute to him through Rain.

Speaking to the Official PlayStation blog in 2011, he added: "I was probably still listening to the album. There was no time to actually make a character, because the game was done.

"So I hacked into the attract screen a quick little sequence of this purple ninja running at Shao Kahn."
