Telltale joined Skybound Entertainment live on stage this week in celebration of San Diego Comic-Con, revealing a little bit more about the upcoming third season of their video game The Walking Dead.

Along with those details came new pictures, the first of which - a poster - paid homage to the original poster for The Walking Dead series when the concept was first revealed all the way back in 2011 at SDCC.

No longer being protected, Clementine is alongside mysterious newcomer to the game, Javier, and more details are promised this summer on how big fans can get their hands on a physical, limited-edition poster.

Creative Director Dennis Lenart from Telltale was joined by Melissa Hutchison, who voices Clementine, to give an exclusive first look at the season, with pictures including Javier and Clem walking through a walker-infested slaughterhouse.

Players were also told to remember they'd be playing as both characters, though they may not be playing each character within the same frame of time - what that means for the story however is being kept under wraps.

Lenart discussed that there was an importance in playing Javier, as the team were able to create a character without prior relationships, providing an opportunity for players to meet a character they helped shape - someone fresh and new to the series, who's sturggling to keep his family together.

Though many of the people who buy season 3 will likely have played the two seasons that came before it - and the Michonne spin-off - the new episodes may also serve as a new entry point for fans who haven't had that same opportunity. Introduced to young survivor AJ, new players will learn more about Clementine's backstory so they're not left in the dark.

The first instalment of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead season 3 is expected at some point in the fall of 2016.
