The new installment in the toys-to-life video game series published by Activision, which allows Portal Masters to create their own 'Skylanders' characters, was voted number one on the Top Toys for Christmas list at the ToyTesters.tv Awards.

The £49 game is the latest in the 'Skylander' franchise, which is set in a world called Skylands, a realm filled with magic and floating islands.

Gemma Gallagher, from ToyTesters.TV, said: "The ToyTesters.tv Awards gives children the opportunity to have a voice, because when it comes to favourite toys, children often have very different choices to adults.

"I've been really pleased to see that the winning toys have been extremely well received from both boys and girls of all age groups.

"Both the winner and the first runner-up are massive surprises in terms of their appeal. I didn't think it was possible to design a toy that children aged anywhere between four and 12 could love."

'Skylanders Imaginators' beat off stiff competition from 'Hatchimals', 'Nerf Modulus Tri-Strike Blaster', 'Play-Doh Ice Cream Castle' and 'Air Storm Firetek Bow', which make up the top five.
