The next instalment of the fighting series was due out in early 2017 but Bandai Namco has now announced that PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers will have to wait until June 2 for some beat 'em up action at home.

The company has also confirmed that Street Fighter's Shoto-style fighter Akuma will be a guest character and will be joining the roster that includes other newbies Jack-7, Master Raven and Lucky Chloe and returning competitors such as Marshall Law, King and Devil Jin.

Explaining the delay in porting it from the arcade to consoles, 'Tekken 7' director Katsuhiro Harada told Gamespot: "We were trying our best to get the game out at that time, to get it into the hands of users as early as possible. We saw some titles - some from our own company and some from others -which didn't have a very good launch because of a lack of content, or whatever it was, that caused players to bash the product."

"Although this is the first time we've actually announced a date, it wasn't always June. It came through a process and we made some hard decisions and that was the result."
