Rachel Franklin - Sims 4 executive producer - has announced that there will be three months of free content added to The Sims 4 in the lead-up to 2015.

The rundown on the October update reveals that ghosts have been added to the game, to allow dead Sims to rejoin the land of the living, maintaining all their attributes but with new special behaviours based on how their life came to an end.

Ghosts have arrived to The Sims 4

Ghosts can be invited to join a Sim's household and act as playable characters - with enough experimentation, there may even be chance to bring them back from the dead.

A second addition is that of the new Star Wars costume set, meaning Sims can be dressed up in Leia's white robes, Darth Vader's suit, Luke Skywalker's X-wing pilot suit and even the Yoda look.

Star Wars outfits are now available

Minor bugs have also been fixed in the October patch, whilst community requests such as new eye colours are also addressed.

The next two major updates are the much-demanded pools, making their Sims 4 debut in November, and new career paths and rewards in December.

All updates are free for players of the game who simply need to log-in to their Origin accounts and download the patches as they're released. Each update also contains some surprises - so players are implored to keep their eyes peeled.

The Sims 4 is available now on PC.
