Gamers can play the console's video games at 3840 x 2160 - a 400 per cent increase of its native 720p resolution.

With the Cemu 1.70 gamers can play Wii U games such as 'Bayonetta 2', 'Xenoblade Chronicles' and 'Super Mario 3D World' in pristine 4K quality - as long as gamers have downloaded the required 4K texture packs, according to Polygon.com.

The positive results from the improved graphics means that gamers can fully enjoy the illustrations featured on popular games like 'Super Mario 3D World', which is the sixth original 3D platform game in the franchise series - and makes up the sequel to the Nintendo 3DS game 'Super Mario 3D Land'.

Released back in 2013 by Nintendo for the Wii U, the game follows Mario and friends who try to rescue Sprixies - more commonly known as fairy-like creatures - from Bowser.

The game has received critical acclaim for its level design, multiplayer, visuals and music all receiving high praise.

Whilst the Wii U is only capable of rendering games at a maximum of 1080p resolution, the Cemu uses the flexibility of Windows and desktop-grade video cards.

The graphics packs for this emulator are now available for Cemu's Patreon backers and is expected to be rolled out to the public on January 16.
