I have teamed up with FemaleFirst for a weekly column where I’ll be answering your questions and giving my expertise. I

’ll be covering everything you want to know about basic interior design, and how to provide those small touches that transform your house into a home. So please feel free to write in and I’ll do my best to accommodate!

- Hi Celia , I have a plain white room with 2 bedsides, a mirror, a wardrobe and a bed , I don’t even have any lamps only ceiling lights!

I’m on a really tight budget but want it to look luxurious and stylish but don’t know how to get it started as I am a little overwhelmed at how to do it with little money. Can you help? Sally.

Hi Sally, Dont fret, It sounds as if you have a nice neutral palate already, which is really great, saves a lot of time and money and means that you will be able to choose a colour scheme without having too many limitations.

I would suggest the following 2 purchases to start you off, which will make a big impact and make your room look stylish and luxurious. Bedside lamps, which can be as simple as you like to meet your budget and BHS have a great selection to choose from varying in price. Reflective surfaces always look really glamorous, so go for either a glass or Chrome look.

They will be a key factor in your room as they will be "framing" your bed, but also ambient lighting will give you a sensual, evening look. Secondly, your bed should be full of fabulous cushions, make sure your linen is white and then throw on a good selection of metallic and faux fur cushions.

Mix and match and go for it! Next and Dwell have a great selection of cushions to choose from at reasonable prices and if you cannot afford to go mad right now, start off by buying a few and keep adding until you have a bed you cannot resist getting into all day long!

Hi Yes it is true, and this is possibly because many people have just received their credit card bills that reflect Christmas spending and they may feel a little financially insecure.

Also people are less interested in going out in the cold, dark evenings, remember that houses don’t show so well at this time of year, due to weather and gardens, so make sure you make up for it by presenting the interior immaculately.

Do a quick once over with the paint, clean your carpets and clean out your rubbish. De clutter as this will help give you a better chance of a better sale price.
