Your study can be the place where all your paperwork ends up, where books go to die and where your stationary gathers for one big party. If this sounds familiar, here are some things you can get rid of today to make your study more streamlined.

Pens- How many pens do you really need? Not as many as you have, I can tell you. Start small but make a big difference by paring down your pens. Get rid of the ones that don’t work and reduce the ones that do to a realistic amount.

Paperwork- Shred everything that needs shredding, file the stuff that is important and recycle the rest. Don’t leave it in a pile for later- the bigger that pile gets, the less likely you are to sort through it. Process all paper as it comes through your door.

Books- Be honest with yourself- if you haven’t read it since you bought it or were gifted it- the desire probably isn’t there. Keep only the ones you WILL read, the ones you are currently reading and the ones you know you will read again. Everything else can go.

Notebooks- There is a limit to how much you can write down. If your notebook collection has got out of hand, keep only a few and donate the rest. Once your current notepad run out- this is the time to bring a new one into your home so you don’t end up in the same situation again.

Files- If you have a vast amount of files- try and condense them down into one or a couple. You don’t need to keep every piece of paperwork that comes into your home, so scan the important documents and keep them digitally, meaning you can get rid of the paper copies.

Calculator- You will probably have one on your phone so there is no need for a physical one anymore.

Small stationery items- When was the last time you used a paper clip, a pin or that ball of string? These are things we THINK we should have in an office, but if you never actually use them there is no point in them cluttering up your drawer space.
