We’re officially keeping up with the Jones’s on WhatsApp, as new research has revealed neighbourhood watch groups, a British Institution since 1982, are increasingly taking place online over messaging services like WhatsApp, as one in five of us (20%) are communicating with neighbours through social media to keep our streets safe.

One home insurer, looked at how technology and lifestyle factors could impact on how UK residents interact with neighbours and discovered one in five (20%) homeowners are using online groups to communicate through social media. More widely, the survey also revealed over half (56%) have joined neighbourhood watch groups either on or offline.

There’s a lighter side however, as the study also revealed a quirkier side of topics we discuss with our neighbours, revealing we’re still a nation of curtain twitchers at heart.
