Christian Bale began his career as a thirteen year old boy in Empire of the Sun and in his twenty year career he has gone from little lad to full blown hottie. His breakthrough as an adult actor came in 1999 when was cast as serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. This role cemented the actors cult status, not to mention notching up Hottie points, and in Entertainment Weekly's tenth anniversary issue he was one of the top8 Most Powerful Cult Figures of the past Decade.2002 proved to be a disappointing year for Bale as he tried his hand at action movies including Reign of Fire with Matthew McConaughey and Equilibrium. Both were not recieved well at the box office with Equilibium giving Bale's career a severe knock.However Equilibrium, and Bale's role as John Preston, also gained a huge cult following.By 2004 he returned to character acting as Trevor Reznik in The Machinist, a role the actor claims helped him cope with his depression. Bale devoted himself completely to the role by dropping sixty pounds to portray Reznik's skeletal fugure. But with his weight back on and all muscled up he became Batman in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, which looked at the origins of the character.

The film was a domestic and international success cementing Bale as a fine actor but as an action hero. He is currently filming the sequel A Dark Knight which is due out next year. This will be the actors first sequel movie.

Out of the bat suit he has starred in Harsh Times, The Prestige and Resue Dawn, a second role were he lost dramatic body weight, and has confirmed him as one of Hollywood's great leading men. He is also the best actor never to have been nominated for an Oscar.

Later this year he will star alongside Cate Blanchett and Richard Gere which is an artistic reflection of Bob Dylan's Life. And he stars alongside Russell Crowe in 3:10 to Yuma which is released in UK today.
