If there is one piece of clothing that signals the beginning of summer it is a pair of white trousers. Whether this be in the form of jeans, wide leg trousers, boot cut trousers or cigarette trousers there is no better staple to have in your wardrobe. They are a perfect item to mix and match, adding pops of colour through accessories and tops to dress them up or adding trainers and muted tones to dress them down. There is a way to style white trousers for every occasion. Designers over the years have updated this piece of clothing with new shapes and patterns, so here is how to style the pair of white trousers you have in your wardrobe.

Cigarette Trousers

Such a classic and elegant shaped trouser, they have been seen on legends such as Aubrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe - these ladies knew fashion and how to keep it as classy as possible. If you want to pay homage to these icons I suggest pairing this style leg with ballet pumps and a casual t-shirt, this could be black or white or a neutral tone to keep it simple. You could also try opting for an off the shoulder style top in the same colours and pair with courtroom heels for a dressed up look fit for a night on the town.

Neutral Tones

It can seem an easy style hack to pair white with a bright colour to add some flair and fun to your look. Bright pinks, vibrant yellows and hues of purple can be an effortless pairing with white. However this summer try to resist reaching for those tones every time and try incorporating some neutral colours into your wardrobe. Take a pair of wide leg white trousers, add an ecru vest top, drape over a soft beige cardigan and complete the look with sandals and a small handbag for daytime casual look. To elevate this outfit, swap the sandals for heels, ditch the cardigan and add lots of gold jewellery for the perfect evening outfit.

Monochrome

One of the most sought after colour combinations is a classic pairing of black and white. This combination is so effortless and requires no thought whatsoever, this year it seems to have increased in popularity on the catwalk with more designers placing the two colours together and accessorising with pops of colour. To style for an office look try white straight leg trousers, a black satin blouse, courtroom heels and a black bag with gold detailing, this creates an effortless look which will have heads turning in the office. For a more casual approach, swap the heels for black sandals and the black blouse with a white off the shoulder top, add gold jewellery to finish the look.

Boot Leg Jeans

This style of cut jeans is constantly playing the disappearing act on the catwalks. One year they are at the height of fashion and every one who is anyone is wearing them, then the next year they have gone missing and it is almost shameful to be caught in them. Luckily this year they are everywhere for the best reasons as they are super stylish and give a nod to the 70s and 90s- talk about nostalgia! So how to style them you’re wondering? Opt for some square toed boots or trainers as these jeans will be drawing the eye to your footwear, add a halter neck top and some rectangular shaped shades for a retro look. Alternatively pair it with a graphic t-shirt, chunky trainers and gold chains for a street style look.

Low Rise

Another style of trousers which fade in and out as the years go on, it seems the 90s is highly influencing many designers this year and low rise jeans and trousers have made a comeback. Stars such as Christina Aguleria rocked the low cut style pairing them with a halter neck top and lots of jewellery, however designers have updated this particular style to fit with the modern day fashions. Pairing low rise trousers with a matching blazer,a crop top and danty gold jewllery for a sophisticated take on the 90s staple. For a more casual look pair a cropped top with sliders and low rise jeans, add a small shoulder bag and rectangular sunglasses for a retro look.
