The Goodness of Garlic

The Goodness of Garlic

Last week we brought you the news that by using some nifty tomato techniques, you could keep your skin glowing and save you some pennies at the same time.

Well this week it's the turn of the humble garlic clove and all the beauty benefits it can bring us.

Garlic has long been used in films and of course to warn off vampires, but few people actually would think to use it as part of their beauty regime.

That said, garlic capsules have been around for ages and promote a healthy heart and circulation if taken regularly, but we're not talking capsules here, we're talking raw garlic and the raw benefits it gives to helping us with basic beauty problems.

Despite the very pungent smell, all you need to do is wear some latex gloves and away you go with mashing, chopping and slathering the garlic all over your face and body. Enjoy!

Here are our top tips to incorporating garlic into your regime..

Cold and Cold Sores

It's about this time of year that we all start to suffer from one, if not both of these annoying winter diseases. Well for treating a cold sore, all you have to do is chop up a garlic clove and place directly onto the sore. It will sting, but keep the pressure on for at least a minute, that way the sore will heal and will not get infected.

Spot Check

You've heard of using lemons, toothpaste and tomato paste for a bout of acne, but have you tried raw garlic? Yes strange as it may seem, garlic can help to aid the healing of a spot, all you need to do is add crushed garlic cloves and their juice to some white vinegar. Now we won't lie to you, this will sting like hell, but dab a cotton wool bud or some tissue into the mixture and dap on your spots around three times a day.

Face Scrub

Mash in some chopped garlic with some strawberries, hot water, oatmeal and tea tree oil for a delectable facial scrub, which will leave your skin soft and smooth.

Hair Solution

With new surveys suggesting that women are just as prone to losing their hair as men, it comes as no surprise that garlic has been used in the past to treat hair loss. The most common method of using garlic in this way is through putting garlic oil on the area which is losing hair and cover overnight. Wash the oil off in the morning and repeat for several weeks. Who knows if this will work, but if your hair is going, then give it a go to see for yourself.
