Billie Piper

Billie Piper

Billie Piper may not be an obvious person to hit the fashion pages here at FemaleFirst, but she is undoubtedly topical at the moment, having just given birth to her first baby...and naming it Winston!

Quirky and cool, Billie is the queen of understated chic, although this was not always the case. Who could forget that drastic velvet purple suit that she wore in her first-ever hit, Because we want to?

Back then Billie was a naive 15-year-old who was eager to make it big on the pop scene, whatever the cost. Those who have read her autobiography know how lonely her life as a pop star was, and why she eventually decided to follow her initial fame path and go back to acting.

Although her career was back on track, it would be a while before wild child Billie sorted out her fashion sense. She even got married in a sarong and crop top, when she was just 18! Two years of Billie in oversized T-shirts, messy hair and some form of alcohol in her hand constantly followed, before she got her first acting role.

Her role as a young wife in The Canterbury Tales was critically acclaimed, although it did require Billie to wear some pretty chavvy denim skirts and butterfly sequin tops. That aside, she was a huge hit and soon after she landed the role of Doctor Who's new assistant, Rose.

Poor Billie, she had to play a chav in this as well! hooped earrings, baggy jeans and hooded tops were all she got to wear, but off-screen her own style was emerging. as she was pictured at the National TV Awards looking chic and polished.

For two consecutive years she picked up their Best Actress gong for her role in the sci-fi series, and didn't disappoint the fashion critics when she strutted her stuff on the red carpet.

Roles in Mansfield Park and Ruby In The Smoke soon followed, and more recently she has been starring in Secret Diary of a Call Girl on ITV2. It's arguably Billie's most challenging role to date, as she plays Belle de Jour, a high-class escort, who funnily enough gets her kit off an awful lot and does some weird and wacky things with her clients.

The fashion in the series (what there is of it!) is pretty chic and stylish, with Billie getting to wear some classy suits and expensive underwear. Off-screen, she's been taking it easy with her style and we forgive her for that, seeing as she has been pregnant.

But now Winston has made an appearance Billie, there's no excuse- we want to see you in our Style Icon section very soon.
