Gok Wan Gives FemaleFirst A Fashion Fix

He's everyone's favourite stylist and we'd happily let him show us how to look good naked. FemaleFirst talks to Gok Wan about glasses, Sarah Jessica Parker and getting Johnny Depp naked!

What have you been up to recently?

I've been busy!I've been finishing the new show which is obviously a big one. I've been launching my second book which is out now, doing a book tour on that. I went out to Cannes and of course...doing Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year! Yeah! Drumroll!

Are you looking forward to the Specsavers awards tonight?

It's always fun, it's my third year running now and it's always a year fun and the guys are absolutely amazing. And more so this year because of the charity that's supporting it, it's Kidscape and that's very close to my heart.

Who is your celebrity spectacle wearer of the year?

I have to say Alan Carr, I do love Alan, he tried to sleep with me! Tell everyone! So for that reason I have to give him spectacle wearer of the year.

Did you expect your specs to become such a fashion phenomenon?

No not at all. The white glasses I bought them out in Hong Kong and it was sheerly by accident that it all happened, I didn't expect it to kick off so much but I'm pleased that it did.

How many pairs do you own?

About 160 pairs! But I'm very lucky because Specsavers do give me a pair every now and again - I'm very fortunate.

Your new show Miss Naked Beauty is on tonight, can you tell us a bit more about that?

Basically Miss Naked Beauty is all about reclaiming the 1950s Beauty Pageant so instead of us looking just at how women look, it's a beauty pageant competition where one woman will win based on her brains, balls and beauty, so all of it combined. Then the winner wins a huge prize at the end. So it's like a competition show but it's very fun and it's very ethical and it's got a huge story behind it. I can't say too much, obviously the first episode goes out tonight but it's a good show and it's all in the same vein as How To Look Good Naked, it's got a nice message.

What sort of challenges will the girls be put through?

I can't say! I'm not allowed to say! Watch it tonight and you'll see! It's good, I'm in it!

How did you find working with Mylene Klass?

She's gorgeous, she's adorable! She is exactly what you see on TV. I was a bit nervous because I hadn't worked with her before and I was like, 'Oh my god it's Mylene Klass'! She's so lovely, so sweet.

You are really passionate about wanting people to accept their bodies, have you always felt so strongly about this?

Yeah I think so, I think going through my own journey of awareness about my own physicality has allowed me to have a greater understanding and I think from that really...It's important, it's really important and I love fashion so it all comes hand in hand. The more that we can get women feeling good about themselves, the better everyone will be dressed, everyone's a winner!

Do you find that people think that because you've been through it, they take your advice onboard a lot more than someone else's. You know what they're going through don't you?

I think so, my natural empathy with women helps. I think, as you say, my own personal journey as well has something to do with it.

Will there be another series of Fashion Fix?

Yes there is! We're filming next year. I think we'll probably be on air about Easter time.

How did you enjoy working with Alexa Chung?

She was great yeah. She's too cool for school! I was a bit, 'Oh my god! It's THE Alexa Chung!' But she was great actually, she's a good girl. She knows her stuff as well, she's brilliant she's an amazing presenter.

Who do you think is the best dressed celebrity at the moment?

I think it's gotta be SJP, I'm a big SJP fan.

She never gets it wrong does she?

No. Bitch! I'm only joking..everyone's shouting at me! I didn't call her a bitch bitch, I said she's a bitch for getting it right! I love her, I wasn't been horrible to her! She is gorgeous. Don't put that in that I called her a bitch! I only said that because she dresses right.

Is there anyone that you think gets it totally wrong?

Err...I do but I'm not telling you who!

Can we guess?

No!I don't do negative I only do positive. Actually I'll tell you who gets it wrong, Boris Johnson gets it wrong!

Is there anyone you'd really love to style?

I'd like to undress Ryan Phillippe! And I'd like to undress Johnny Depp!

I'd like a life size Johnny Depp in my pants! That'd be nice.

We're gonna get a bit serious now, every day the news is full of stories about the credit crunch and recession, what tips do you have for people wanting to look stylish on a budget?

I think that fashion is accessible on a budget and I also think that because of the credit crunch, peoples fashion choices and shopping needs to be far more informed.

With Christmas getting closer what do you think are going to key looks for the party season?

I'm kind of pushing gothic rock actually, I think that's great. All the lace and the black it all dresses up very well for Christmas.

What do you think are key pieces of clothing and accessories every girl should have?

I think every girl should have a pair of black opaque tights. Every girl should have a waist cincher and I think every single girl should have a satin pussy bow tie blouse!

Oh an ex-boyfriend. I've still not taken his number out of my phone yet. I'm gonna do it as soon as I get off the phone now, You've inspired me!
