Karl Lagerfeld’s new line for Chanel soared to new heights last night in Los Angeles.

Not only did he hold the 2007-08 Chanel Cruise show for his Resort collection in an airplane hangar in Santa Monica, the show opened with two private jets filled with models rolling up to the entrance of the hangar.

During the show, Demi Moore sat with über-producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Eva Mendes and Dita Von Teese sat side-by-side, and Milla Jovovich, Diane Kruger and Claudia Schiffer made quite the triple threat in a first-row banquette seat. Angie Harmon hung with Jamie Tisch, while Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sat with some pals across from Lindsay Lohan.

The jets were emblazoned with "Chanel Line," and the fashion house’s signature interlocking C's.

Male and female models strutted in ultraglam summer frocks and bathing suits. Getting the most oohs and aahs? His-and her-black sequined robes.

Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham will probably pick up matching robes for her and her soccer star hubby David Beckham, "but only if I can have the red and orangey shoes that go with it," she told me.

Could the jets mean a Chanel Airlines is in the works?

"I’m not sure," Lagerfeld said after the show. "I don’t think I am the right person to run airlines. But I love jets. I am a good client for private jets."

Beckham would soar the Chanel skies. "There should be," she said. "I would definitely fly on it."

So, what can Lagerfeld possibly do to top this extravaganza?

A cruise ship? "No, no, no," the legendary designer said. "The big ships, I think, are awful. They’re for retired people. They’re boring."

It seems Lagerfeld still has his head in the clouds. "I will have helicopters," he said with a smile. "I love helicopters."
