Michelle Obama has beat off style icons including Sarah Jessica Parker and Mischa Barton to be crowned best dressed in a top annual list.

The possible future First Lady topped Vanity Fair's 2008 International Best Dressed List after the magazine called her "our commander-in-sheath."

Also on the list were English rose Kate Middleton, French President's wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, James Bond actor Daniel Craig and footballer David Beckham.
