Stella McCartney has been speaking out after animal rights activists attacked her for teaming up with a sport's label that uses kangaroo skin.

The vegetarian designer who regularly condemns the fashion industry's use of fur came under attack over the weekend about her highly anticipated collaboration with Adidas.

Animal Aid said that the sports giants use kangaroo leather to make thier football boots. The allegations come just one month before Adidas by Stella McCartney makes its runway debut at London Fashion Week and Stella has denied she is involved in any kind of animal cruelty.

"Stella McCartney is a lifelong vegetarian and committed advocate of animal rights and doesn't use any leather or fur in any of her collections, including of course, her successful Adidas by Stella McCartney collections, which are 100 per cent cruelty free," said her spokeman, in a statement.

"All the accessories designed in collaboration with Adidas are made with alternatives to leather: high performance fabrics, which don't use any animal by-products, including kangaroo leather," the spokesperon added.

"By using such innovative materials to produce high performance shoes, Stella McCartney proves that the use of leather is not necessary to achieve the same performance results and offers the best alternative for the consumer to decide."
