Stella McCartney will be honoured with an award next Monday for her environmental efforts at the National Resources Defense Council's benefit.

The Designer, who refuses to use fur and leather in any of her collections, will receive the reward from Hollywood actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, reports Catwalk Queen.

Stella has been actively involved in championing animal rights for years, and recently joined forces with Pink and PETA, to reveal a new advert at her fashion show in Paris.

She recently spoke to Suzy Menkes at the International Herald Tribune about her stance on the whole issue, and what she thinks about disposable fashion.

"It's not just because I don't eat animals or that I think that half a billion animals a year shouldn't be killed for the sake of fashion. It's because I also believe very much in the connection between fur and leather and the environment.

"There's a huge connection. Now, I think more and more people will start to take notice of that - the use of water for tanneries, the chemicals that are used - there's a huge impact environmentally."
