Vera Wang is reportedly rethinking her contemporary Lavender label, after apparently taking a hit thanks to the current economic climate.

According to WWD, major American retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman have apparently dropped the line for spring, while others have reduced their stocks of the label.

It's thought that Wang's line is too expensive for the standard contemporary fashion category, and that's why the label has reportedly fallen on hard times.

Wang launched her Lavender line in 2005, as a stunning range of cocktail and evening dresses.

She commented to WWD:"We were going with where we thought the business was. I didn't just hope for it to be a resource, but I wanted to make a statement every season from a creative point of view.

"We were in some cases overpriced for the landscape of contemporary. For us, we are taking this as a good time to rethink what Lavender is, could be and will be."

Wang also hinted that licensing the label may be an option in the future, adding: "There are some other possibilities on the horizon on how we morph Lavender."
