Alber Elbaz thinks of his mannequins as his "girlfriends".

The creative director of Lanvin - who is famed for his incredible window displays - has put together a book of his favourite creations titled 'Lanvin: I Love You', in which he claims he loves all of his mannequin characters equally and describes each figure in a handwritten annotation.

Examples of his descriptions include: "Rosalie Emmanuelle Cleveland is a celebrated psychologist. She smokes one cigarette a day, usually around 4.30 in the afternoon.

"Chantelle and Margaux have been friends since primary school. They go to the same shops, same hairdresser, even the same therapist."

Quizzed on whether he had a favourite character, Elbaz told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "No. They're all my girlfriends."

The 53-year-old designer offers his clothes in sizes up to a UK 16 but, despite having been open about his own struggles with weight, he insists he sees no reason why all brands must cater to larger men and women.

Speaking about designers who deliberately limit their sizing, he exclaimed: "Let them! Not everybody has to do the same."

Meanwhile, Elbaz confessed he's never heard of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini - who recently prompted the selling out of one of his designs after she donned the £2,400 Lanvin blush-pink jacquard bustier dress.

When asked if, perhaps, he knew her by her former name, Cheryl Cole, he claimed: "I've never heard of her, but if she wore Lanvin then I thank her for that."
