Taylor Swift: Named Best Dressed Star at the Billboard Awards

A recent poll by Udozi discovered that only 5% of shoppers are inspired by celebrities when it comes to purchasing decisions.

But why is that? With a world where our lives revolve around celebrities, it would seem believable that we are influenced by celebrities and based our wardrobe on what the hottest star is wearing. However, this is not the case.

The poll, which consisted of 2,000 people, found that 15% of Brits gain shopping advice from store catalogues, whilst 23% of Brits fashion sense is inspired by magazines. And what’s more, 19% of consumers will only purchase items after talking to their friends!

However, many Brits do not want to be seen in the same clothes as everyone else, with 33% stating that they would rather shop at boutiques and independent stores. The poll found that over half of Brits do not enjoy the high-street fashion experience. However, John Lewis, Debenhams and Primark are the most desired high street stores to shop.

Alan Gabbay, Founder, Udozi stated, “We live in an age where many people spend more time catching up on the latest celebrity gossip than they do engaging in real-life conversations, but our research shows that there is still a little room for tradition – at least when it comes to shopping! So it’s surprising, but reassuring, to see that so many of us still turn to magazines and traditional store catalogues – as well as new services like mobile – as sources of shopping inspiration. Whilst internet use is on the rise, today’s shoppers still enjoy heading into traditional bricks and mortar stores for a bit of retail therapy.”

Udozi is a shopping inspiration app which helps people search for and find items in shops near them, available to buy today.
