The 21-year-old model - who has starred in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Chanel and Marc Jacobs - has revealed when she is choosing what to wear she "tries" to pick something she knows people will either fall in love with or absolutely detest.

Speaking to PEOPLE about her wardrobe choices, the blonde beauty said: "I try to go for more like people are either going to love or hate it. I don't want anyone to feel neutral about what you wear."

And the catwalk icon - who is currently dating One Direction band member Zayn Malik, who has embarked on a solo career - thinks it is good when people are "nervous" about the garments they adorn.

She said: "I think being a little bit nervous about an outfit isn't that bad.

"If you're really excited about it then it makes it less scary and hopefully that's what makes statements in the end."

However, the star has revealed she doesn't necessarily feel "comfortable" wearing something, which enticed her at first.

She explained: "Something that were to make me very excited to see on the rack doesn't mean that I'm right away comfortable about when I put it on. But I think that the excitement kind of inspires you and they kind of work together."

Gigi has revealed she "always" has a "moment" with an ensemble when it's hanging on the clothes rack.

She said: "Always my first memory of seeing something that I wore on the red carpet was the first time I saw it on the rack. I always have a moment with an outfit, like when I see it I know it's the one for the night."

Meanwhile the fashion muse is set to grace the runway for Victoria's Secret in the lingerie giant's fashion show next month, and in preparation for her catwalk appearance Gigi is training to get a "perkier" bottom.

Speaking previously, she said: "A lot of squats and eating my carbs ... My butt is what I'm working on for the last two weeks - need to get it perkier."
