Graduate Fashion Week

Graduate Fashion Week came to a close last night with the announcement of this year's Gold Award winners.

Myrto Samou was the talent graduate who scooped the top womenswear prize. The University of the Creative Arts Rochester student was presented with the River Island Gold Award at a star studded Gala show.

Myrto's futuristic collection was praised by the panel of judges including  designers Matthew Williamson and Giles Deacon.

"Myrto's collection was the most complete of all entries. Her beautiful draped jersey dresses - with cut-outs, appliqué and leather panels - were technically really well done, but could also believably be seen on a catwalk or in a high end fashion retailer," Giles Deacon told vogue.

Meanwhile Mehmet Ali, of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication,  was presented with the top menswear award.

Judge Lorraine Candy of Elle magazine explained: "We chose Mehmet Ali for the Menswear Award because he talked very intelligently about his influences and direction. This was further demonstrated by his portfolio and technical skills which shone through. A great all rounder," reports fabsugar.
