Lulu Guinness thinks women should cover up as they get older.

The fashion designer has revealed her top style tips for mature ladies and emphasised the importance of covering up past a certain age.

Talking to BANG Showbiz at the Red Women of the Year awards in London last night (03.09.14), Lulu explained: "Definitely cover the arms. Mutton dressed as lamb is not a good thing. I think the worst thing you can have is someone turning around and looking great from the back and they turn around and you seeing their face in shock. It's like, 'Oh my god, not what I was expecting.'"

She then joked: "I've never had really, really good legs so I've never had that dilemma. If I'd had legs up to here [armpits] and I was six foot, I don't know. I've never had to make that decision."

The 54-year-old fashionista is getting ready to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her brand at London fashion week - which launches on September 16 - and believes the industry's attitude towards ageing designers has changed a lot over the past two decades.

She said: "When I came into the fashion industry it was very ageist. So if you were 54, which I am, you'd have done your bit and go away and be quiet somewhere.

"But now if you think of Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood and there's so many of them. With ageism, don't think just because someone is older that they don't understand fashion."
