The 73-year-old iconic shoe designer - who now has two stores in London, with the newest opening in Burlington Arcade in Chelsea - has been obsessed with British ladies since he was a child and became fascinated with them from the films he would watch with actresses like Charlotte Rampling.

And that obsession has inspired his luxury footwear brand.

Manolo - who is from Spain - told Grazia.co.uk: "I have incredible madness about English women. Since I was a child, I remember seeing Charlotte Rampling ... and Julie Christie in all those films that nobody knew in the 60s. I always thought that English girls had something that nobody else in Europe had - not even the French.

"The English (have) some kind of freedom that ... I don't know ... some 'movement' that inspires me. So I came to live here, I came to have a shop here. I love England."

Away from England, Manolo also has great admiration for former Victoria's Secret Angel Karlie Kloss - who hails from Chicago.

The footwear god often thinks about how his new shoe creations would look on the leggy 23-year-old beauty.

Manolo said: "I love Karlie, she's divine!"

Manolo's designs were frequently worn by Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker's character in 'Sex and the City'.

When asked which pair of his shoes he enjoyed seeing the New Yorker wear the most, he answered: "You know, so many that I don't remember ... but she loved pumps, yes, she loved pumps - and sandals."
