Margherita Misssoni says her family have had an "intense" year.

Margherita Misssoni has spoken about her family's tragedies for the first time and admits their close-knit bond has helped them get through these "hard" times.

The Missonis were faced with the disappearance of Vittorio Missoni, CEO of the family's luxury fashion house, and his partner Maurizia in a plane crash in January, followed by the death of Ottavio Missoni, the company's 92-year-old founder, in May.

The Italian heiress has now spoken about the tragedies for the first time, saying her family's strong sense of solidarity and support has helped them deal with their losses.

Margherita told The Times newspaper: "It has helped us a lot that there are so many of us and we are so tight. It's easier than if you were having to face it all on your own.

"Of course it was hard for me, especially because I'm pregnant. I've had a very intense pregnancy, with all the things that have happened, but it wasn't my father - other family members have had a harder time.

"We are hoping this will be closed very soon."

The 30-year-old brunette - who is Missoni's accessories director - is expecting her first child with her racing driver husband, Eugenio Amos. Her pregnancy was announced just two months after her uncle Vittorio's plane disappeared off the coast of Venezuela.

The wreck was discovered at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea in June after a six-month search.
