Winter trend 2011: Monochrome...

Though you may think that simply wearing black and white together is the recipe for a boring and dark look for next season, thanks to the runway, there are always new and inspired ways to freshen up the look.

Design houses including Burberry and DKNY have used the monochrome look for their a/w collections and we like what we see. Simple designs that are being glammed up and styled with the use of different fabrics and designs to make them trendy and new.

A-Line and Peter Pan collar dresses are some key shapes when wearing your monochrome fashion this year. However, if you're more of a vintage or pattern lover then Oscar De La Renta's looks should be your muse.

Take a look at some of these little numbers to get you in the mood for updating your winter wardrobe. Don't forget, bags and accessorises are also great for finishing off your monochrome style.

You cannot go wrong with a pencil skirt for kicking off your monochrome look. It's versatility make it a winner for the office or an evening out with class and sophistication.

Team with blouses, blazers (either plain or patterened, depending on how funky you're feeling) and of course some chosen pieces of jewellery. From Alexander Wang for Liberty London, £95.
