Gypsy Embroidery

Gypsy Embroidery

It may seem like the sun has yet to arrive but with summer sales already beginning in some high street stores, it's time to look ahead to the big trend for Autumn/Winter 08-09.

Earlier this year we predicted how the folk look will be huge this winter fand along with that comes some great gypsy style embroidery detailing.

Embellished Blouse, Rocha.John.Rocha, Debenhams, £28

Primary colours stitched in pretty floral patterns onto a black background are a fab way to brighten up the heavy black materials we're going to see this winter.

On the catwalk Luella showed off a great folk inspired collection at London Fashion Week in February with embroidery around the waist and on collars for extra embelishment.

Winter Garden Clutch, Accessorize, £30.

The high street stores are already getting tuned into the gypsy trend with Debenhams and Accesorize ahead of the game with some great folk-ish embroidery in the preview collecttions for next season.

Traditionally Romanian gypsies and East European folk dancers wear a mixture of different patterns and styles of embroidery in all colours.

Embroidered Scarf, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson, Debenhams, £20

However to make the trend work for you this winter it's best to stick to one item such as a belt, handbag or a top with detail around the neckline as a way of brightening up a seasonal dark outfit without looking like you're about to start selling lucky heather.
