It seems this year that designers on the catwalk are feeling nostalgic and are showing nods to almost every era. The return of the 90s, 00’s and now the 70’s- that's right, the decade that gave us disco is making a huge comeback, from knee high boots to double denim the fashion scene is getting the 70’s stamp on it. Celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Miley Cyrus can be seen sporting the 70’s vibe with their bell bottom jeans and slip dresses. So why not get your groove on this Spring with the 10 must have 70’s inspired trends.

Bell Bottoms
One of the most iconic pieces of the time were the bell bottom trousers, these trousers were tightly fitted at the top and flared out towards the bottom making them wider, hence the name ‘bell bottom’ as they were shaped in a similar way to a bell. They increased in popularity because of the extensive use of bold colours and patterns, it was also the first time that it was fashionable for men to express themselves with these brighter colours. To style this legendary piece of clothing pair a halter neck top, platform heels and a small clutch bag with your choice of bell bottoms for a look fit for the disco. For a more casual look pair a jumper, chunky trainers, small jewellery and your pick of bell bottoms.
Pearl Jewellery
Pearls have currently been seen all over the high end catwalks with designers such as Tory Burch, Miu Miu and Simone Rocha all accessorising their models with pearls. This can range from necklaces, earrings, belts, bags and headbands there is no limit to how you can add a bit of pearls to your outfit. In the 1970’s satin slip dresses were often paired with a long pearl necklace to create a sultry evening look, something that has come back into fashion today. To style your pearls keep the tones of your outfit neutral, I would recommend opting for beige or ecru so that all eyes are on the jewellery.
Denim Dresses
The one thing about denim is it never goes out of fashion, you can wear it any way and with the right styling you can still look the height of fashion even if they have been hidden away in your wardrobe for years. Denim dresses are the perfect day to night dress as they can be accessorised with different bags and shoes to fit around the right occasion. I would recommend opting for a mini or midi length denim dress as they will be easier to style for day time looks. For an evening look opt for platform heels, a large bag and a mini denim dress for a short and cheeky look. If getting your legs out is not your thing, opt for a midi denim dress and match with low heels and a shoulder bag for a more demure daytime look.
Trouser Suits
Another iconic look that has grown in popularity over this year is the power trouser suit, matching blazers and trousers to create a super chic ensemble has never been easier with most designers churning out new ways to spice up your suit. Designers such as Versace, Dolce and Gabbana and Saint Laurient have all mastered the suit game and flooded their Fall/Winter catwalks with trouser suit inspiration. There are many ways you can style a trouser suit to fit the occasion for example for office wear opt for a fitted suit with a vest top underneath, pair with heels for the ultimate boss vibe. To style for a night out opt for a wide flared leg trouser and belted blazer, you can then accessorise with gold jewellery and add a red lip for maximum drama. If a casual look is more your suit then pair with trainers and a graphic t-shirt for a more relaxed look.
Safari Style
The 1970’s took inspiration from nature and often had browns and greens incorporated in most of the fashion. First modelled by Betty Catroux in 1969 the safari style was a hit and every designer wanted in on the trend the first designer to actually take the leap was Yves Saint Laurient and this look would be one that stuck for the whole decade. The piece he designed was a safari dress which was like a jacket that was belted up and had pockets at the bottom. Taking inspiration from him it seems the best way to style an iconic look such as this is to pair it with knee high boots and a chained bag for a perfect evening look.
