Prudent British mums are set to collectively save more than £1.9billion on their Christmas purchase lists this year by becoming a nation of smart and savvy shoppers, according to research by Littlewoods Rewards, the loyalty scheme from Littlewoods.com.

As 85% of mums admitted they felt under pressure to deliver a fantastic Christmas this year, the survey of 3,000 mothers revealed that UK mums are set to save an average of £100 each against their Christmas shop along with actively seeking out bargains and offers to help spread the festive cheer this year.

The average family will be spending just £505 on gifts and festivities this Christmas, down from £604 in 2009, and with money tight eight in ten admit that they don’t know how they would survive Christmas without vouchers, special deals and loyalty schemes to help afford great presents for all the family.

The efforts to make Christmas more affordable come despite more than half of mums admitting that they have been saving for the festive season in the last six months, whilst 15% began putting money aside immediately after December 25th 2009.
