An Asda spokesperson said:The nation's mood has lifted since the doom and gloom of the January blues. The first pay day of the year is the most anticipated of all as the nation has struggled to cope with the financial hit of Christmas. It's the little things in life that make the most difference to Brits - whether its the feeling a cup of fresh coffee brings in the morning, a new childhood toy or just the safety net of knowing your car is full of petrol. At Asda, we are constantly striving to save our customers money every day, meaning the odd treat here and there isn't such a strain on the purse strings.'
