Nissan’s Urbanproof advert for the new QASHQAI compact crossover picked up the award for Best Car Advertising campaign at the Motor Trader Industry awards held last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The ad, in which a QASHQAI is used as a skateboard in the city to demonstrate the car’s strength and agility, beat off stiff competition from Ford and Skoda.

Curtis Hutchinson, Editor of Motor Trader commented: "The winner in this category is chosen by our editorial team and is awarded to a campaign which is original, memorable and has prompted car buyers to visit dealerships".

Well it certainly worked as the QASHQAI Urbanproof advert was created by TBWA and first shown in the UK in February. Since the vehicle went on sale in March, nearly 8000 have been sold.

That’s a lot of cars. Do people really buy a car based on the TV advert? In that case, there should be hundreds of happy people driving the Citroen C3 after watching those happy dolphins swimming - or rather driving - the car. Or perhaps some very overweight drivers in the new Skoda Fabia where they made the delicious looking cake to replicate the car.

I wonder how much money time and effort went into making these adverts but if it really does sell cars, then I guess it must be worth it.
