Vans are familiar sights on Britain’s roads but how many people - especially the drivers themselves - realise many are time bombs primed to go off?

The trigger that releases their killer potential is a crash or emergency that in most cases would be survivable.

But as an impact or emergency stop halts the van, what the load bay contains will keep moving forward at the original speed into the cab area, with the potential to fatally crush the driver and passengers.

Typically most at danger are engineers and self-employed tradesmen who have made racks in their vans to carry tools and spare parts. These might hold everything in place until the unexpected happens.

Now we all moan about white van drivers and their dreadful reputation for speeding and tailgating, but this is quite worrying for the thousands of hard working self-employed van drivers who do actually drive nicely.

So if your husband or partner falls into this category, pass this onto them. There is an answer in a new rack that has been developed to stop the load from hurtling towards the driver.

But of course, we now the real answer is to limit all van drivers to 55 mph on motorways!

Oh dear, I might have just caused world war three.
