The most common reason for a vehicle not to start in winter is due to a dead battery.

According to statistics, battery problems increase in November, with December being the worst month of the year.

The busiest day for a battery to fail, according to the RAC, is on a Monday between 8am and 8.45 in the morning, after a vehicle has been left parked-up for the weekend.

Ah, so that’s why people are inevitably late for work on a Monday.

Well, to annoy offending employers and appease employees, instead of having to wait for the emergency breakdown service to arrive here are a few tips that will help you avoid a flat battery and give you a guide of how to get started fast so you are not late for work.

Don’t leave your interior lights on overnight - as this is the most common reason for a flat battery.

Have your car serviced before winter sets in, asking them nicely to check the alternator, turn off lights, wipers and heater before you switch off the engine thus allowing extra charge to be put back in the battery.

If you go down the DIY road and jump start your car make sure you have the jump leads the right way round or you won’t be at work for the rest of the day.

So, no more excuses for being late on a Monday morning.
