Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner

It has been four years since we have seen the Hulk on the big screen but this week sees Mark Ruffalo take on the role of the very first time as part of The Avengers.

Last time we saw Bruce Banner he was running off into the wilderness to avoid capture from some government/military types but now he has been called back into action by S.H.I.E.L.D

The Hulk is a character that was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby appearing in his first comic back in 1962.

Bruce Banner is an expert when it comes to gamma rays but when he gets major exposure to the radiation during an experiment.

The levels of radiation he was exposed to should have killed him but instead he turns into the big green rage machine that is the Hulk - his alter ego.

When S.H.I.E.L.D call Banner in it's not the Hulk that they want rather Banner's experience and knowledge of Gamma radiation and how it can be tracked.

They find him caring for the poor and the sick in Calcutta - you feel that by being surrounded by people who are so worse off than he is he cannot complain about his plight.

Bruce Banner is a character who has been brought a long way since we have seen him last in the way that he views and deals with his problem.

But it's not long before the Hulk is needed to help save the world and he is not depicted as the mindless/senseless rage machine that he has been seen as in the past - the moment with Thor after they bring down one of their enemies is priceless!

Ruffalo has brought a serious charm to this character and he has the potential to be the best Banner/Hulk to date.

Ruffalo is the first actor who will play both Banner and the Hulk as motion capture has allowed him to take on this duel role.

The Oscar nominated actor has highlighted his desire to possibly to a stand alone movie, whilst also suggesting that the character of Banner may be an interesting addition to the Iron Man franchise.
