Doubt
The 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards announced their nominations yesterday with Doubt leading the way with five nods, including Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
The film also made an appearance in Best Actress for Meryl Streep, Best Supporting Actor for Phillip Seymour Hoffman and two nominations in Best Supporting Actress for Amy Adams and Viola Davis.
Despite being snubbed by the Golden Globes there was a Best Actress nod for Melissa Leo for her role in Frozen River, a film that did well at the beginning of the awards season.
However this was the only surprise as the rest of the films and performances that has been fighting it out at recent awards were all there.
And there was some major British interest as Kate Winslet gained two nominations for Best Actress for her role in Revolutionary Road, a film which re-unites her with Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Supporting Actress Holocaust drama The Reader.
There were also a couple of nominations for Danny Boyle's new movie Slumdog Millionaire, which now looks certain to be fighting it out at the Oscars. Actor Dev Patel also finds himself in the Best Supporting Actor category.
But he does find himself with strong competition as Heath Ledger was awarded with another posthumous nomination for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight, and with each awards ceremony that passes he looks almost certain to scoop the Oscar for his performance.
All the expected actors made the Best Actor category as Richard Jenkins, Frank Langella, Sean Penn, Brad Pitt and Mickey Rourke will all go head to head, Sean Penn the slight favourite for his role as Harvey Milk which has won the support of the critics in recent weeks.
The Best Actress category is equally as tough as Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep and Melissa Leo all find themselves nominated.
