Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood

This week Clint Eastwood goes back in front of the camera with the release of DVD Gran Torino, what is believed to be his final acting role.

In recent years he has made a major mark as a filmmaker with the likes of Million Dollar baby, Changeling and Unforgiven under his belt.

So to celebrate the release of Gran Torino and the career of Eastwood, one of cinema's biggest stars, FemaleFirst takes a look at his best big screen moments.

1. Dirty Harry (1971) - Do you feel lucky punk?

No prizes for guessing that this would be at the number 1 spot. The classic moment from Dirty Harry shows Eastwood in one of his most well-known roles, delivering one of the most memorable and most quoted lines of his career. Vintage Eastwood.

2. Every Which Way But Loose (1978) - You talkin’ to me?

Well, we couldn’t include ‘Do you feel lucky punk’, without including this could we? Another classic Eastwood moment; this time all he wants is a few peanuts at the bar, but some people just don’t like sharing.

In true Clint style, he sorts out the minor misunderstanding with a few hefty punches. But remember, violence doesn’t solve anything. Unless you’re Clint Eastwood.

3. Gran Torino (2008) - Walt rescues Sue from an intimidating gang

Nobody likes a bully, especially Walk Kowalski. Old, bitter and unapologetically racist, this scene is not only amusing, as he aims his gun - made from his index finger and thumb, at the three guys, but shows the first hint of compassion in Eastwood’s character, which slowly grows throughout the film from this point onwards. Oh Walt, you do have a heart.

4. Sudden Impact (1983) - Harry sorts a punk out in the elevator

There are some people you don’t want to rub up the wrong way. Harry Callahan is one of them. After putting an over-confident 'punk' in his place by comparing him to dog shit, Callahan’s colleague says to him, 'You’re a class act Callahan, a real class act'. We couldn’t agree more.

5. `A Fistful of Dollars (1964) - Apologise to the mule

OK, so he may have some anger issues and appear slightly unapproachable, but he sure does love his mule. And if you’re going to have someone fighting in your corner, who better than Clint Eastwood? That’s one lucky mule.

Gran Torino is out now on DVD.
